Alex Yang is a Minnesota-based illustrator and graphic designer passionate about visual storytelling rooted in community engagement.
His detailed, people-centered work celebrates cultural identity and shared human experiences, guided by the belief that art and design can build bridges, foster belonging, and contribute to a more inclusive creative landscape.
For over five years, he has collaborated with organizations such as the Minnesota Historical Society, Hmong Museum, the SEAD Project, Across the Mountains, and Hmong American Partnership on public-facing projects ranging from educational website resources and culturally-informed zines to commemorative designs celebrating 50 years of Hmong resettlement in Minnesota.
Alex’s commitment to community engagement is reflected in his people-focused approach where he creates designs and illustrations often drawing from local community narratives, historical events, and nostalgic cultural iconography.
His work has been exhibited at the University Library Gallery at Sacramento State University, Soeffker Gallery at Hamline University, XIA Gallery and Cafe, La Crosse Public Library, and In Progress.
He continues to work with organizations, community members, and fellow creatives to educate, empower, and connect individuals by visually capturing the rich and diverse stories of Minnesotan communities.
