Process Work:
In developing this piece, I looked to existing artwork that incorporated Minnesotan iconography and to Hmong story cloth tapestries for visual inspiration.
From these two sources of visual inspiration, I selected and combined elements from both: the Minnesota state shape, the colors of the Minnesota flag, and the shape language of Hmong story cloths to create a concept that would be easily recognizable as both Minnesotan and Hmong inspired.
After finalizing the sketch, I explored two color ways for the text and decorative elements: one monochromatic and one with two shades of blue. I chose the latter for its stronger contrast and better visual connection to the Minnesota state shape.
